[edit] Wild Water Racing or WWR also called Down River Racing or Descente
WWR is the sport of racing canoes and kayaks down rapid rivers. Wild Water Racing is an exciting and challenging discipline, combining the speed of flatwater racing with some of the technical aspects of slalom racing. Competitors choose their own route down the river to pick the fastest line. To be successful requires technical ability in reading the river and an efficient paddling style.
BCC members have been known to take up the challenge of being the fastest down the river and so be the first in the Tea Shop or Pub!! :-)
WWR is a lot of fun even if you take it slightly less seriously than the top level competitors. It is a great way to learn to read the river as you have to make instant decisions and plan your route well ahead in order to keep the line smooth and flowing, thus avoiding rocks which will damage your boat and slow you down.
More details and the race calendar can be found on the GB WWR website
[edit] Fast Cruising
WWR race boats are also great for Fast Cruising either on the flat or on rapids. Although not as fast as a marathon K1, the extra stability allows you to cruise comfortably through myriad conditions (although beam waves or cross winds on open water or the Sea are better handled in a Sea Kayak).
