Battersea Canoe Club
Battersea canoe club is a small and relaxed London Canoe club with a great mix of abilities and canoe/kayak interests. Coaches and experienced paddlers are on hand to help out and provide advice, and the club has equipment for hire at nominal rates on club trips. There is a Committee but the emphasis is firmly on informality with all members being encouraged to suggest and organise events. Our most active disciplines are white water, polo, drinking and generally mucking about on the Thames or when the river's dry or surf flat we go mountain biking, hill walking, climbing, skiing, etc. - anything outdoors.
About the ClubMembership is open to adults over the age of 18 only. Activities include White Water paddling, White Water Racing, Canoe Polo, Surfing and a few other on and off the water adventures. Unfortunately, due to excess demand, we have now had to freeze our waiting list for people with no or limited paddling experience. If you are an experienced paddler please contact us for more information. Please also contact us if you are interested in Canoe Polo it is currently full with a small waiting list. We do not generally hire boats or paddling equipment for ad-hoc usage; this is only available to members on club trips or activities. We are also not set-up to accommodate individuals or groups wishing to just train for the purposes of entering a particular event (e.g Devizes to Westminster, quadrathlon's, adventure races, etc). There are several other clubs in the London area which may be better suited for this purpose. White Water Racing is another aspect of the sport which a few at Battersea have been known to participate in. Most Wednesdays and some Sundays a group go out on the Thames in the white water racing boats for an hour or two. Please feel free to join in but contact Ed first to make sure a trip is running and that kit is available. See Current events for more details of our regular events. We often end up in a local pub after many sessions and this is where most trips and social events are organised. Trips and stuff are organised on a fairly ad-hoc basis, these range from freezing our bits off on some Welsh river to Urban Boating where the scariest thing is the pondlife. There are no limits to what you can do in a canoe (actually there are but let's not go there). Check out Current events to find out what's happening. More about the club |
Hot News & Events & StuffJuly 31, 2010 We've been dead busy recently, with multiple trips to Wales, Devon and the Isle of Wight. Check the trip reports page for the low-down on all the thrills (and spills...) Definitely worth checking out is the page turner that is John's account of the Upper Dart for the first time. Will he survive all the way down? Will his trusty steed and he part company? What is the colour combo he's currently favouring? For real-life drama as well as journalistic excellence, visit next week's installment of The Upper Rocks (are hard to avoid!) - December 2009
Recent events:A general club paddle down the Dart, a trip down to the excellent Adventure Paddler weekend as well as a 5* leader training weekend on the Dart and the Erme. We've also had trips to the Nene, HPP and the Isle of Wight for some Sea Kayaking along with classroom based training on Sea navigation in London. Trip reports and photos will no doubt appear soon on the usual pages... see Trip_Reports for a selection of other reports and the Facebook group site for others and all the gossip, hot off the press.
