Open Pool Session

Brixton Recreation Centre, 27 Brixton Station Road, Brixton, London SW9 8QQ

See below note in bold text!

There is a weekly kayak session in Brixton Recreation Centre swimming pool, which is open to the general public, where people can practice their paddling skills, so long as they’re over 18 and can swim 50m.

The session is now restricted by a limited number of boats, it is now necessary to book a place on a particular session by adding your name to the list below. If you turn up without booking you are likely to be turned away.

The session lasts around an hour between 8.00pm and 9.00pm every Sunday and costs £5.75 which is paid directly to the Leisure Centre on arrival, remember that you need to be poolside by 7.50pm to kit-up. Kayaks and all other kit is provided, so all you need to do is bring your swimming costume and towel.

You will usually meet several Battersea CC members, who use this session to hone their skills in warm and clean water. Given a little bit of notice they are usually more than happy to give some of their time to the newer paddlers in the pool to help them learn the essential skills for kayaking.

Most people normally go a pub nearby to ‘unwind’ and catch up after the session – it’s a great opportunity to chat to some of the members about the club and find out how to get involved.

If you are over 18 years old and can swim 50m and want to attend the next session and there are spaces still available on the list below, then you may contact us to ask to be added to the list. If you become a regular attendee of the session then you will be set up with a userid and password that will enable you to add your name to the list below.

Book your place (and boat if preferred)

The list is monitored and you are only guarenteed use of kit if you name is on the list below.

There are now 16 kayaks available for use. There are 9 Rotobats which are suitable for larger paddlers. So if you need a Rotobat, please put this next to your name.

If you have your own boat you may attend if your boat is clean, (i.e. no sand, dirt or other contamination). Please add your name to the list below, so that the pool does not become overcrowded.
