Battersea Canoe Club

Battersea canoe club is a small and relaxed London Canoe club with a great mix of abilities and canoe/kayak interests. Coaches and experienced paddlers are on hand to help out and provide advice, and the club has equipment for hire at nominal rates on club trips. There is a Committee but the emphasis is firmly on informality with all members being encouraged to suggest and organise events. Our most active disciplines are white water, polo, drinking and generally mucking about on the Thames or when the river's dry or surf flat we go mountain biking, hill walking, climbing, skiing, etc. - anything outdoors.

About the Club

Membership is open to adults over the age of 18. Activities include White Water paddling, White Water Racing, Canoe Polo, Surfing and a few other on and off the water adventures.

We have experienced such a flood of new paddlers in recent months with far more people approaching us than we can realistically cope with. If you have no or limited paddling experience we are currently keeping a waiting list. Please contact us if you would like to be added to this list.

White Water Racing is another aspect of the sport which a few at Battersea participate in. Most Wednesdays and some Sundays a group go out on the Thames in the white water racing boats for an hour or two. Please feel free to join in but contact Ed first to make sure a trip is running and that kit is available.

See Current events for more details of our regular events. We often end up in a local pub after many sessions and this is where most trips and social events are organised. Trips and stuff are organised on a fairly ad-hoc basis, these range from freezing our bits off on some Welsh river to Urban Boating where the scariest thing is the pondlife. There are no limits to what you can do in a canoe (actually there are but let's not go there). Check out Current events to find out what's happening. More about the club

Hot News & Events & Stuff

July 3, 2009

We seem to have been a bit slack about writing trip reports recently, probably 'cos we're all too busy paddling!! Most photos appear on the Facebook group, so best to look there for recent trip pix.

Oh and what trips have we done recently? Nene exclusive hire, Tryweryn, Upper Wye and Usk, to name a few.

Recent events:

previous trips have been to Symonds Yat for an introduction to moving water, the Nene (exclusive hire!) and then 37 of us descended on the Dart and had a rare old time (and even did some paddling!) on BCC's biggest trip to date, which was a huge success due to awesome organisation by Katie and Al. Trip reports and photos will no doubt appear soon on the usual pages......

2008 saw BCC hit the grand olde age of 15, therefore at the summer social we thought it might be nice to honour the fact. As a result, in addition to the usual drinking we also presented a few Awards (not unlike the Oscars, tears and all) - for all the gossip check out 'Katie's Review'

Alps 2008 to Landeck/Prutz - read all about it: including who rolled, who swam and how many times, tales of bar top dancing, helicopter call outs and more!!!! (full report appearing here soon)

The Notorious BCC, once again the club is making it into the news, this time it's the BCC in The Metro - check it out!

See Diary of events for what's planned

More fame! BCC appear in Sport magazine or for the pdf download click here
